Shadow pass on only the geometry, AKA disable self shadows on geometry, plus a quick question about the shadow shapes pass with alpha

Hi, thanks for your support.

I’m hoping to render a video with smoke falling onto a somewhat complex geometry, and i want to render it within EmberGen. I would like the shadows from the smoke to fall onto the geometry, but I don’t want the geometry to shade itself. The shadow shapes pass seems to be my best bet, but the geometry has shadows going onto itself.

this is a view of the shadow shapes pass. as you can see, the geometry is shading itself. is it possible to change this?

Also, on a less important note, is it possible to render the shadow pass with alpha instead of white? this would streamline my process a little more, but no problem if not.

Thanks!

yay! i figured it out. you simply have to disable “Shapes Cast Shadows” on the render settings menu.

Thanks!

Hey I’m glad you were able to solve this by yourself! If you ever have questions in the future feel free to reach out and we’ll be happy to help
