Imported VDB doesnt have same look

I am in love with embergen  You did awsome job thanx for this. But i have problem i am making very nice sims at embergen but when i import to octane cant get the same result. i want to see the same look with embergen at octane could you help me about settings please.

Octane render & Cinema 4d

It’s going to be pretty much impossible to get the same settings as EmberGen has a completely different render style and far more controls. Your best bet is to render in EmberGen and then composite into your final scene that was rendered in octane.

Hi Nick, congratulations on Embergen - incredibly great software! As I’m a completely new user (bought the software a few days ago) and am currently learning at full speed so I can use it in my workflow of C4D and Octane (I’m currently working on a specific project with one of our biggest customers SAP and T-mobile). I have been working with C4D for 8 years and Octane for about 6 years. The workflow is usually: compositing in C4D with all light and camera settings (for still and moving images) - so the output is always a vdb file. Now it is the case that the result in Embergen is not the same as in C4D under Octane (clearly, there are other lighting conditions, camera settings, render settings, etc.) but the difference is partly very big. My question: 1.) You wrote in a forum post: “It’s going to be pretty much impossible to get the same settings as EmberGen has a completely different render style and far more controls. Your best bet is to render in EmberGen and then composite into your final scene that was rendered in octane.” True - but what is the output of Embergen? A .png or .tiff file image sequence ? Surely this means that 3D compositing in C4D is impossible. If I want to view the animation from a different camera angle or pose, I have to use a vdb. File - and there the result looks completely different. 2) is there a standard (“default”) Embergen project with a specific C4D Octane project that can be viewed? It would be optimal to offer a very small project (maybe the default project under Embergen) also as a C4D project with the settings for Octane, Redshift, Arnold, where the result is exactly the same as in Embergen. What would be your recommendation for an optimal compositing in c4d? Again, congratulations on the software - incredibly good and incredibly fast  - oh yes, I have several RTX3090 installed in my workstation - but I think only one is used - is that right? Thanks a lot! best regards, Robert - GeoPic Austria - www.geopic.at

Only one GPU is used yes.

  1. 3D compositing would not be impossible because you can import the camera from C4D (and in the future, the lights), render the images out, and then composite it as such.
  2. We probably won’t make our own projects at this time as we will have a direct C4D integration via OTOY/Octane in the future. I is not possible to make VDB’s look the same in the other renderers like they do in EmberGen as our method of rendering is different than everyone else.

It seems to me that even if you want to, you just can’t use two GPUs)

Correct, we do not support multiple GPU’s at this time.

New EmberGen user via Octane Subscription (since last year but only now investing serious time in learning and utilizing it). Love the flexibility to export directly from EmberGen for quick sequences or use the VDB’s for heavy rendering in Octane, where sometimes the LAST thing I want is to mimic EmberGen’s output (and not having to worry about the myriad of EmberGen shading and scene parameters).

A few questions on the plugin integration with Octane (should that be a separate thread?).

You mention Octane C4D a lot but I am assuming the EmberGen plugin will also be available for Octane Standalone and for Octane Blender?

Regarding compositing: is it possible to import an Octane Standalone or Octane Blender camera into EmberGen?

Can EmberGen export camera data?

And last, is there any workflow for camera exchange with After Effects?

  1. We are working with OTOY to make EmberGen work in most DCC’s as a plugin yes. No ETA/Timeline.
  2. It should be possible to import a camera as long as its an FBX.
  3. No exports on camera data right now.
  4. If you can export an FBX from after effects then sure.
