Illugen distance field support

Hi, does Illugen support signed distance fields? Generating them, doing operations on them, etc.

Hi Zoltan, there is a Distance node in IlluGen and you can preview how it works in the noise_04 preset that is included in the software. Of course you can always do operations on the various outputs with other nodes, it all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. Let us know if you have any other questions about this!

Thanks for the info! I’m working on our realtime VFX pipeline and thus trying to decide between Material Maker and Illugen. Do you have plans to implement stuff similar to MM’s robust DF support?

Oh sorry, DF/SDF : (signed-) distance fields. MM has a dedicated data type for it and a bunch of related nodes: conversion (like the Distance node you mentioned), basic shapes, operators (bool, shell, corner round, etc) and transformations.

oh of course lol, sorry I’m just getting used to these terms since i don’t have a lot of previous experience with texture generators. I’d imagine we do have plans to improve that node but I’m not sure about the particulars. I’ll reach out and ask!

Edit: Gil said that it shouldn’t be a problem to do that, beside finding the time to do it lol
